The horrors of each day
brought live and in color
to our receptive homes,
never lets us  recover
from the shock of blood and gore,
and may not be as destructive
as the brutal ravages
of the hordes of Attila,
the hordes of  Genghis Khan,
killing, raping, looting,  burning,
riding on and destroying
the next town, the next tribe.
But back then it took a while
to find out what happened,
allowing us time
to digest bad news.
