Cherry Pits

My heart feels heavy under
This cover of stars
Pinpricks of light on my tongue
That were late to leave
The bronze bleeding dawn

I picked the stars that did not set
With curious fingers
I picked them like cherries
That gleam blackish red
And taste bitter sweet

Cherry pits on my tongue
That feel like tiny stars
Gushing their light down my throat
And filling my belly
With the brightness of a sun

More and more of them I pick
And eat
And become myself a star
From the inside pouring heat
My skin bursts like a ripe cherry

A supernova blooms
From inside of me
Mourning stars
And cherry pits scatter
everywhere
